Indonesia Factor May Postpone KF-X Project

02 November 2017 KF-X fighter (photo : Air Recognition) Indonesia has failed to pay its annual share of expenses for a joint project with South Korea to develop high-tech fighter jets, an opposition lawmaker claimed Wednesday. The claim prompted concerns the project, dubbed KF-X, could be suspended. Rep. Kim Jong-dae of the Justice Party, a member of the National Assembly Defense Committee, said Indonesia's state-run defense firm PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI), a participant in the project, has yet to pay this year's remaining allotted 138.9 billion won ($124.5 million) to Seoul as of the end of October, based on a document from the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA). "If Indonesia does not pay in time, the Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) has to shoulder the burden of 40 percent of the development costs," Kim said. "Coupled with the current issue of the company being financially strapped, the KF-X project could easily be put in danger." KAI i...

Khwaja Suhail Mansoor, chairman of Pakistan’s standing committee on defence production, claimed recently that the fiscal year that ended in July, the value of defence exports was $98.3 million, a 55% jump from a decade back. While the JF-17 is a major joint collaboration effort to manufacture and sell combat planes by Pakistan Aeronautical Complex and the state-owned Chengdu Aircraft Industry Corporation (PAC/CAC), it has been mainly developed by China by improving its CAC FC-1 Xiaolong air fighter. Myanmar is the first country to buy these planes ...

(all images : Terma) Aarhus, Denmark – During ADEX 2017, Terma will introduce its concept of bringing the aircraft self-protection capability of the F-16 to the T-50 family of Light Combat Aircraft. At Terma’s booth (no D21) we will demonstrate to operators of T-50 LCA how a similar concept to that of our F-16 self-protection upgrade can be applied to the T-50 LCA family with the same low impact with respect to aircraft modification which has made the F-16 upgrade so successful for decades. We present the solution as well as mock-ups of the modified wing weapon pylon (ACE-Pylon) providing the T-50 family of LCA’s with the same capabilities as those provided to the F-16 by the PIDS pylon family, including the high increase in chaff/flare payload capacity. Highly Experienced Provider Terma has been involved in retrofi...
