Third RAAF F-35 Makes First Flight

05 Desember 2017 A35-003 takes off from Fort Worth. (photo : AustralianAviationCarl Richards) The Royal Australian Air Force’s third F-35A Lightning II, A35-003, has completed its first flight. Photographer Carl Richards captured these images of A35-003 taking off on its first flight, from Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth, on December 1. The aircraft is due to be delivered to Luke Air Force Base, Arizona in early 2018 to be used for pilot and maintainer training, before being permanently relocated to Australia in 2020. A35-003, known to its manufacturer Lockheed Martin as AU-3, had its RAAF markings, including its 3 Squadron tail flashes, applied in early November, the final phase of the aircraft’s production process. 3 Squadron is due to become the first RAAF F-35 operational unit. RMAF Receives RM6m Mobile Electronic Warfare Simulator Prototype

29 November 2017 The prototype of the Mobile Radar Threat Emitter Simulator (MTES) (photo : MalaysiaToday) KOTA BELUD: The Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) received a RM6 million prototype of a mobile electronic warfare simulator system, the first of its kind in the country, here today. The system, called Mobile Radar Threat Emitter Simulator (MRTES), will be used in electronic warfare training for pilots, especially of fighter planes. Electronic warfare is a war system that degrades the effectiveness of enemy radar and radio systems by using radar jamming and deception methods. RMAF chief Gen Affendi Bujang received the prototype from Syed Mohamad Jamil, representative of the company which made the system, Syarikat Ikramatic Systems Sdn Bhd, during a ceremony on the sidelines of an air force exercise here. “The MRTES is another important asset that will increase RMAF’s capability to defend our airspace,” Affendi told reporters after the handover ceremony. DND Acquiring Troposcatter System with ‘Extreme Confidentiality’

27 November 2017 Two American companies to bid to meet a requirement for a tropospheric scatter (troposcatter) communications system. (photo : Shephard) The Department of National Defense (DND) through its Special Bids and Awards Committee (SBAC) chaired by Asec. Teodoro Cirilo T. Torralba III is procuring a tropospheric scatter (troposcatter) system for Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) joint C4ISTAR from Zamboanga to Tawi-Tawi. C4ISTAR stands for Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Information/Intelligence, Surveillance, Targeting Acquisition and Reconnaissance. The acquisition will be via Limited Source Bidding with only two American defense company, Raytheon and Comtech Systems Inc., invited to participate. “We would like to request your good office to treat this project with extreme confidentiality,” the DND SBAC said in its invitation to bid. Submission and Opening of Bid Envelopes is scheduled on November 21. The acquisition project has an approved budget of PHP181....

TNI AU Bangun Satuan Radar Baru di Sumba

17 November 2017 Satuan radar baru akan dibangun di Kahale, Sumba Barat Daya (photo : ThalesRaytheon) Kupang, NTT (ANTARA News) - Komandan Pangkalan Udara TNI AU El Tari, Kolonel Penerbang Ronny I Moningka, mengatakan, TNI AU akan membangun satuan radar baru di Kahale, Kabupaten Sumba Barat Daya, Pulau Sumba, untuk mendukung pengamanan wilayah udara di NTT. NTT merupakan provinsi paling selatan di Indonesia, yang berbatasan dengan Laut Timor, Samudera Hindia, dan Australia. "Di Kahale sedang dibangun satuan radar baru, sudah ada lahan yang disiapkan pemerintah daerah setempat dan sudah dilakukan pemagaran," kata Moningka, di Kupang, Kamis. CETC Scans for Asia Pacific Radar Opportunities

The company’s latest radar systems include the S-band phased array SLC-2E weapon locating radar (WLR), which is designed to support counter-battery missions against hostile artillery and rockets, as well as airborne threats with its air defence function. UK Looks to CEA Radar for Navy

13 November 2017 CEA radar for warship (photo : MDC) The Minister for Defence Industry, Christopher Pyne today welcomed the announcement that the British Government will look at the feasibility of fitting cutting-edge Australian radar on future British warships. The announcement made by the Under Secretary of State for Defence Procurement, Harriett Baldwin during her visit to Adelaide today is for a capability study to fit CEA Technologies’ ‘CEAFAR’ radar to British ships and it will begin early next year. The radar is already in-service with the Australian Navy. The decision came after the Australia/UK Defence Industry Dialogue which took place in the United Kingdom last week.  The partnership is seen as a vehicle for accelerating co-operation between the two nations. Japan to Build Four Radar Stations for the Philippines to Counter Piracy Surge

11 November 2017 Japan will fund four radar station through ODA budget (photo : JRC) TOKYO (Reuters) - Japan will build four coast guard radar stations on islands in the Sulu Celebes Seas separating the Philippines and Indonesia to help Manila counter a surge in piracy by Islamic insurgents, two sources said. An agreement to fund the facilities and provide training to local coast guard personnel may be signed as early next week by Japanese Prime Minister and Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte in Manila, the sources said. “The seas in that area are an important waterway for merchant ships traveling to Japanese ports,” one of the people with knowledge of the plan said. The sources asked not to be identified because they are not authorized to talk to the media. MENTERI Kelautan dan Perikanan Susi Pudjiastuti menyatakan pemerintah Jepang sudah sepakat ingin memberikan hibah kepada Indonesia. Hibah yang akan diberikan ke Indonesia ini termasuk yang terbesar sepanjang sejarah yang pernah diberikan Jepang ke seluruh negara di dunia. "Ini akan menjadi hibah terbesar sepanjang sejarah.
