13 November 2017 BTR-4 8x8 armoured personnel carrier (photo : TAF) State-owned defence industry group Ukroboronprom is pursuing regional license manufacture for its  8x8 BTR-4 armoured personnel carrier (APC). A company representative said it is already in talks with a number of potential customers in Southeast Asia. The company’s latest success in the region is with the Indonesian Marine Corps (KORMAR), which ordered an initial five vehicles in 2014 with these delivered in September 2016. KORMAR has a known requirement to replace around 100 ageing BTR-50PK APCs that were acquired from Ukraine in the late 1990s. The BTR-4s delivered to the KORMAR, which are manufactured by the Kharkov Morozov Machine Building Plant, have been equipped with a ZTM-1 30mm automatic cannon and a coaxial AGS-17 30mm automatic grenade launcher. Speaking to Jane’s at the Defence & Security 2017 show in Bangkok, Miles Chambers, NIMR’s international business development manager, said the company has identified opportunities in the two countries for its Ajban 440A light tactical patrol vehicle and Ajban LRSOV (long-range special operations vehicle). 09 November 2017 BTR-4M Korps Marinir TNI AL (photos : UkrOboronProm) Jakarta -September lalu, Korps Marinir TNI AL (Kormar) telah mengoperasikan lima APC amfibi BTR-4M yang dipasok oleh Ukraina pada tahun 2016. Dalam pelatihan tersebut, para prajurit Marinir mengakui keandalan dan kemudahan pengoperasiannya serta multi-purpose capability yang dimiliki oleh APC buatan Ukraina. Dalam pelatihan tersebut, prajurit Marinir didampingi oleh perwakilan dari developer BTR-4, Kharkiv Morozov Machine Building Design Bureau dan SFTE "Spetstechnoexport" sebagai pemasok. Earlier in some media there was information referring to the Minister of Defense of Indonesia Rjamizard Ryachudu, according to which Jakarta plans to acquire order from Russia 50 armored vehicles for its marines, the agency said. The two vehicles are very similar, but one of the apparent differences is that one of them (seen below) is shorter (photo : Shephard, Army81) Images have emerged on online forums suggesting that China is testing new 6×6 amphibious armoured vehicles. The photographs appear to show two very similar, but subtly different vehicles. The first vehicle seems to follow a fairly conventional 6×6 layout, with driver and commander at the front and primary access for dismounts via a hydraulic ramp to the rear. The vehicle turret appears to be remote, thus allowing more space for dismounts in a smaller hull. The turret is equipped with a small electro-optic mast atop the turret, and a bank of grenade launchers mounted on either side of the primary armament, the latter of which appears to be a heavy machine gun. The vehicle can be equipped with the STANAG Level 3 amour with V-shaped hull design.  The laser warning system and Acoustic Gun Shot Detection Sensor provide the all angle situation awareness. The weapon option including the 7.62 mm Gatling or 7.62 mm cupula, the automatic 12.7 mm or 7.62 mm RCWS station, 76 mm smoke grenade launcher, Thermal/IR camera, IF camouflage coating, etc. The vehicle can be transported via the C-130 aircraft, roll-on roll-off ship, or standard railway. 03 November 2017 VT-4 of the Royal Thai Army (photo : AAG) China is moving forward with plans to build a repair and maintenance centre in Thailand, following October’s delivery of VT4 main battle tanks. This will create a more flexible solution for the maintenance of Chinese weapons in Thailand. The initial plan to build this facility was started by Chinese technicians and engineers sent to Thailand. Following delivery the first batch of VT4s by Norinco, a total of 437 different spare parts were despatched for initial maintenance as part of a one-year deal, as well as the need to guarantee spares, technical service and repair support for 25+ years. The process will be to first stock spare parts for the VT4s and VN1 8x8 APCs, as well as spares for other military hardware from China in the future. 01 November 2017 Phantom 380-X 4x4 MRAP (photo : Shephard) Satisfied with the performance of a prototype Phantom 380-X 4x4 APC deployed by the Royal Thai Marine Corps (RTMC) in the country’s troubled southern border region in 2014, its builder Panus Assembly later received an order for two further units. The newer vehicles benefitted from minor modifications and added equipment to suit counterinsurgency operations, and they were redesignated as the Phantom 380X-1. The RTMC, part of the Royal Thai Navy (RTN), has been operating the pair of Phantom 380X-1 MRAP vehicles in the southern border region. They have responded well to mission requirements and benefitted from quick repair and maintenance, so the RTN plans to buy more in the near future. The Phantom 380X-1 weighs 19t and can carry a payload of 1,800kg.
