Third RAAF F-35 Makes First Flight

Photographer Carl Richards captured these images of A35-003 taking off on its first flight, from Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth, on December 1. The aircraft is due to be delivered to Luke Air Force Base, Arizona in early 2018 to be used for pilot and maintainer training, before being permanently relocated to Australia in 2020. A35-003, known to its manufacturer Lockheed Martin as AU-3, had its RAAF markings, including its 3 Squadron tail flashes, applied in early November, the final phase of the aircraft’s production process. 3 Squadron is due to become the first RAAF F-35 operational unit. BAE Systems Highlights Proposed Future Frigate Knowledge Transfer

24 November 2017 Type 26 frigate for SEA 5000 (image : BAE Systems) BAE Systems and the UK government have committed to what the company says would be an “unprecedented” transfer of intellectual property if the Global Combat Ship-Australia is selected for SEA 5000. More than 5,000 ‘work years’ of technical design worth $1.5 billion would be transferred to Australia, BAE Systems stated. “The transfer of data and the digital design of one of the world’s most sophisticated ships will support the development of a continuous naval shipbuilding capability in Australia, ensuring that local industry can build the fleet of nine Future Frigates,” the company stated. “It will also ensure they can be upgraded and supported during their decades of service. 23 November 2017 KRI RE Martadinata 331 (photo : deefence.pk) KRI Raden Eddy Martadinata (REM) – 331 yang di Komandani Kolonel Laut (P) Agam Endrasmoro melaksanakan Latihan Replenishment at Sea (RAS) atau pembekalan di laut, latihan tersebut dilaksanakan di perairan Teluk Pattaya Thailand, Selasa (21/11/2017). KRI REM-331 melaksanakan latihan pembekalan di laut dengan Kapal perang Royal Thai Navy yaitu HTMS Taksin-422. Dalam latihan tersebut KRI REM hanya melaksanakan Station Keeping dengan posisi sejajar yang dilanjutkan peran parade penghormatan kapal. BHIC's Unit Bags RM19m Contract from Ministry of Defence

16 November 2017 RMN frigates KD Jebat dan KD Lekiu (photo : Chanjunshen sports) Boustead Heavy Industries Corp Bhd’s (BHIC) wholly owned subsidiary BHIC Defence Techservices Sdn Bhd has secured a contract worth RM19.5 million from the Ministry of Defence Malaysia for the supply and delivery of communications for Squadron 23rd Frigate of the Royal Malaysian Navy. In an exchange filing today, BHIC said the contract is for the period of two years and a formal contract between the government and the company will be signed at a later date. “The contract will have no material effect on the earnings of the company for the financial year ending December 31, 2017 but it will contribute positively to the future earnings of BHIC group,” it said. DSME on Target for Thai Frigate Delivery

13 November 2017 DSME DW3000 frigate of the RTN (photos : Navy Recognition) South Korean shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) is on track to deliver a 122 metre multipurpose frigate on order for the Royal Thai Navy (RTN) with an expected  delivery date of August 2018. The frigate has been given the pennant number 471, and is currently undergoing a series of sea trials.  It was ordered under a $440 million (14.6 billion THB) contract inked between the Thai government and DSME in August 2013 with work beginning at the company’s shipbuilding facilities in Okpo, South Korea, on 21 January 2017. The vessel is based on the Kwanggaeto Daewang (KDX-1) destroyer which is in service with the Republic of Korea Navy (ROKN). The ship's principal armaments include a 76mm main gun, eight surfaceto-surface missiles, eight vertical launch systems, and six torpedoes. Aselsan Providing Gun System for PH Navy’s Upcoming Frigates

09 November 2017 Aselsan SMASH 30mm RWS (photo : SeaWaves) Aerospace, defence and security business information outlet Shephard Media reported that Aselsan will supply the 30mm SMASH remote-controlled naval gun system as secondary gun for the two Philippine Navy future frigates ordered from Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI). According to MaxDefense Philippines, the 30mm Aselsan SMASH conforms to the Technical Specifications of Navy frigate acquisition program as it was part of HHI’s Alternative Configuration. “But since the PN is already using the MSI Defence Seahawk and BAE Systems Mk.38 Mod.2 remote operated stabilized guns, the PN originally wanted the MSI Defence 30mm Seahawk which was offered by Hyundai as part of their Baseline Configuration,” it added. “Cost could be the issue since sources confirmed that the Aselsan SMASH is around $300,000 cheaper than the MSI Defence Seahawk,” MaxDefense said. BAE Systems Positions Type 31 Frigate for Thailand

07 November 2017 Concept of Type 31 frigates (photo : BAE Systems) BAE Systems is positioning its Type 31 multipurpose frigate to meet potential opportunities in the Royal Thai Navy (RTN) for additional surface combatants. A spokesperson for the company told Jane’s on 6 November at the Defence & Security 2017 show in Bangkok that, if selected to fulfil requirements, BAE Systems would offer to build the Type 31 frigate in partnership with local industry. The RTN ordered one light frigate from South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) in 2013 at a cost of about USD400 million. This 122 m vessel is being built in South Korea and is scheduled to be delivered to the RTN in August 2018. ( Jane's )

Minister Pyne has confirmed he discussed Poland's expression of interest in purchasing the frigates while meeting with his Polish counterparts. Poland officially expressed its interest in the vessels in March this year when Michal Jach, the chairman of the Polish parliament's National Defence Committee, told the Safety Forum 2017 conference in Szczecin: "The acquisition of used Adelaide frigates from Australia would represent a major upgrade for Poland, it would raise the combat capability of our Navy." C-Guard to Protect Philippine Frigates

02 November 2017 C-Guard decoy launchers (photo : Terma) Denmark-based Terma Group will equip the Philippine Navy’s future frigates with its C-Guard decoy launchers, which will assist in the protection of the strategic assets. The company will deliver a total of four launchers, two per frigate. Each launcher has six tubes, the DL-6T Launcher variant, and uses 130mm NATO decoy rounds to protect against threats including RF, IR, dual seeker and torpedo threats. The C-Guard solution has been thoroughly evaluated by the Philippine Navy. A company spokesperson said that the same system was also being commissioned in Thailand soon, although they could not disclose more details. More than 200 C-Guard systems are currently in operation worldwide on platforms ranging from patrol vessels to frigates. The Third Gepard Missile Frigates of the Vietnamese Navy has Arrived at Cam Ranh Port

The Rolldock Star has now entered the Cam Ranh port  as scheduled in preparation for the delivery of the 3rd Gepard missile frigates to the Vietnamese People's Navy. Thus, the 44-day journey begins on 13 September in Novorossiysk of the Rolldock Star with the task of carrying the 3rd Gepard missile frigates of the Vietnamese People's Navy has come to an end. The ship will soon be removed from the Rolldock Star and ready to join the navy fleet of the Vietnamese People's Navy. New Zealand Set to Start Search for ANZAC Frigate Replacement

Cross-decking FSU systems to a new platform is one option being studied. The New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) is looking to formally establish a project next year to examine options for a Future Surface Combatant (FSC) capability to replace the Royal New Zealand Navy’s (RNZN’s) two ANZAC frigates HMNZS Te Kaha and HMNZS Te Mana post-2030. Writing in the RNZN’s house magazine Navy Today , Captain Andrew Watts, Lead FSC project in the NZDF’s Capability Branch, said that a number of preliminary workstreams were already underway to inform government understanding on options for naval combat capability. Sharpeye Radar System for Philippine Navy

The Philippine Navy Frigate Acquisition Project (FAP) was awarded to HHI in October 2016 to build two 2,600 ton frigates for hand over starting in 2020. Kelvin Hughes has announced it is to supply HHI two SharpEye™ navigation radars along with multifunction bridge radar displays for the Philippine Navy FAP. This follows the announcement by Kelvin Hughes in September that HHI contracted the company to supply the Integrated Navigation Bridge System (INBS) for The Royal New Zealand Navy (RNZN) Maritime Sustainment Capability (MSC) Vessel. 21 Oktober 2017 Fregat KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai 332 (photo : Piet Sinke) Sebagaimana dilansir Okezone  pada akhir bulan ini TNI AL akan terima kapal perang Perusak Kawal Rudal, Kapal perang buatan PT PAL kedua jenis frigate Sigma 10514 bernomer lambung 332 yang diberi nama KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai mempunyai panjang 105 meter, lebar 14 meter dan memiliki kecepatan 28 knots tersebut rencananya akan diserahterimakan kepada TNI AL akhir bulan ini sesuai dengan kontrak dengan Kemhan RI.
