Third RAAF F-35 Makes First Flight

Photographer Carl Richards captured these images of A35-003 taking off on its first flight, from Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth, on December 1. The aircraft is due to be delivered to Luke Air Force Base, Arizona in early 2018 to be used for pilot and maintainer training, before being permanently relocated to Australia in 2020. A35-003, known to its manufacturer Lockheed Martin as AU-3, had its RAAF markings, including its 3 Squadron tail flashes, applied in early November, the final phase of the aircraft’s production process. 3 Squadron is due to become the first RAAF F-35 operational unit. DND Confirms to Acquire 24 Attack Helicopters

25 November 2017 24 brand new attack helicopters will be acquired during 2018-2022 (photo : AIN) MANILA -- The Department of National Defense (DND) confirmed plans to acquire 24 brand-new attack helicopters which will be used by the military to support troops engage in fighting terrorists and other lawless elements. This was confirmed by DND public affairs office chief Arsenio Andolong in a message to the PNA Thursday. "We have programmed procurement of 24 attack helicopters under the Second Horizon of the Revised Armed Forces of the Philippines Modernization Program. We are awaiting for the final approval of the Office of the President on the RAFPMP Second Horizon," he added. TAI Hopes For The T129 Order From RTA

09 November 2017 TAI T-129 ATAK (photo : Roman N) Turkish Aerospace Industries hope its T129 will win in the RTA's attack helicopter procurement program. "T129 is equipped with the weapon from Rocketsan and avionics from Aselsan. 29 airframes are currently in service in the Turkish Army. This morning (8 Nov 2017) we have a chance to brief the commander of RTA's Aviation Center about the capability of our T129" Eral Oguz, UAS program manager and TAI representative told TAF. T129 ATAK is shortlisted by the RTA to compete with the AH-1Z Viper in the AH-1F replacement program. It's a variant of Agusta A129 Mangusta with Turkish weapon and avionics. Turkish Army order 50 aircrafts and has the option for 40 more. "We believe the T129 is the strong candidate (in the RTA competition)" said Eral Oguz. ( TAF )

The attack and reconnaissance Tiger helicopters, which cost about $1.5 billion and more than $800 million to sustain, are supposed to continue to operate into the 2020s. And to maintain operations to 2020, the aircraft needs a mid-life upgrade worth hundreds of millions of dollars.
