29 November 2017 The prototype of the Mobile Radar Threat Emitter Simulator (MTES) (photo : MalaysiaToday) KOTA BELUD: The Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) received a RM6 million prototype of a mobile electronic warfare simulator system, the first of its kind in the country, here today. The system, called Mobile Radar Threat Emitter Simulator (MRTES), will be used in electronic warfare training for pilots, especially of fighter planes. Electronic warfare is a war system that degrades the effectiveness of enemy radar and radio systems by using radar jamming and deception methods. RMAF chief Gen Affendi Bujang received the prototype from Syed Mohamad Jamil, representative of the company which made the system, Syarikat Ikramatic Systems Sdn Bhd, during a ceremony on the sidelines of an air force exercise here. “The MRTES is another important asset that will increase RMAF’s capability to defend our airspace,” Affendi told reporters after the handover ceremony. (photo : RMAF) LABUAN - The Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) would never compromise on its PARADISE exercise even in the face of financial constraints, Air Operation Commander Lieutenant General Datuk Seri Abdul Mutalib Ab Wahab said on Saturday. “The mini PARADISE 4/17 exercise, which was conducted at the Labuan air base here, had achieved its training objectives. “The RMAF will improve its weaknesses to ensure better exercises,” he said in a statement. 16 November 2017 RMN frigates KD Jebat dan KD Lekiu (photo : Chanjunshen sports) Boustead Heavy Industries Corp Bhd’s (BHIC) wholly owned subsidiary BHIC Defence Techservices Sdn Bhd has secured a contract worth RM19.5 million from the Ministry of Defence Malaysia for the supply and delivery of communications for Squadron 23rd Frigate of the Royal Malaysian Navy. In an exchange filing today, BHIC said the contract is for the period of two years and a formal contract between the government and the company will be signed at a later date. “The contract will have no material effect on the earnings of the company for the financial year ending December 31, 2017 but it will contribute positively to the future earnings of BHIC group,” it said. According to RMAF Chief, Gen Tan Sri Affendi Buang, the technical team will analyse several aspects of the contender’s aircraft and choose the best option which fits the RMAF requirements. “Besides the aircraft’s capabilities, the team will evaluate other functions of the aircraft, including its supportive aspect and whether it (the aircraft) could collaborate with our local industry. The relocation actually began on 30 August as part of the RMN’s overall reorganisation of operational commands. The process began on 27 April with the splitting of the RMN Fleet Command into the Western Fleet Command at RMN Lumut to oversee operations around Peninsular Malaysia, and the Eastern Fleet Command for East Malaysia operations based at RMN Kota Kinabalu. The Region 2 Command was previously responsible for operations in East Malaysia but, with establishment of the Eastern Fleet Command, its responsibility is now solely for operations off the east coast of Sabah. 28 Oktober 2017 2018 Budget for Mindef (image : Mindef) The Malaysian government has announced that defence spending will increase by 5.3% under the 2018 budget. Total spending on the Ministry of Defence (MoD) will rise from MYR15.1 billion (USD3.6 billion) to MYR15.9 billion. Spending will decline marginally against GDP, remaining at a level of around 1.1, and as a share of overall government spending from 5.8% to 5.6%. Despite that, the MoD’s budget allocation is still around 7% lower than in 2015 following a large cut to military spending in 2016. The additional funding will be allocated within the recurrent budget which incorporates the operating costs of the MoD and the armed forces, with related spending rising by 7.6% from MYR11.7 billion to MYR12.6 billion.
